PAMI Recommendations on Reflective Materials:

  • For maximum visibility, PAMI recommends the use of superior grade reflective strips not less than 50 mm x 225 mm or 0.011 m2 (2 x 9 in. or 18 in.2 ) in size for each reflector location. [Reflective tape is generally supplied in 50 mm (2 in.) wide rolls].
  •

  • Reflective materials have advanced significantly in recent years. While many styles and brands are available and technically meet the requirements of the regulation, the newest materials are by far superior. These are often identified by the generic terms of retroreflective materials or conspicuity tape. For maximum visibility, PAMI recommends a superior grade of retroreflective material such as 3M Diamond Grade or Reflexite Conspicuity Tape. Your dealer may be able to supply other comparable brands.
  •

  • Additional reflectors (or reflective materials) should be visible from the front and rear of a machine, especially on over-width equipment (equipment wider than 3.6 m or 12 ft.). The reflectors should be red when visible from the rear, and amber when visible from the front. Reflectors are mounted within 400 mm (16 in.) of the extremities of the machine.
  • The horizontal distance between any reflective material should not exceed 1.83 m (6 ft.) when mounted across the front or back of a machine. The reflective material on a SMV emblem may be included to meet these requirements.

  • Take care to follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for reflectors and reflective tape. Improper mounting can lead to premature failure of adhesive bonds between reflector and machine.
