    Tail Lamps

If the visibility of the tail lamp(s) on the towing vehicle is impaired you must have at least one tail lamp (permanently fixed or moveable) mounted to and visible from the rear of the implement and positioned to the left of the implement centre. If two tail lamps are used, the second must be positioned to the right of the implement centre and should be symmetrical with the left tail lamp location (FIGURE 15).

FIGURE 15. Equipment that blocks lights on the towing vehicle must be lit as shown. See text for details.

    Warning Lamps

If the visibility of warning lamps or extremity lamps on the towing vehicle is impaired

    or

if the implement is more than 4 m (13 ft.) wide

    or

if the implement extends more than 2 m (79 in.) to the left or right of the centre line of the towing vehicle and beyond the left or right extremity of the towing vehicle,

    or

extends more than 10 m (33 ft.) behind the hitch point

you must have at least two flashing amber warning lamps (permanently fixed or moveable) visible from the front and rear. The lamps must be placed within 400 mm (16 in.) of the horizontal projections of the implement, and should be mounted at least 1 m (39 in.) but not more than 3 m (10 ft.) high (FIGURE 16).

On non-symmetrical implements that extend only or mostly to the left or right, such as windrowers or mower conditioners, one of the flashing warning lamps is required to be located within 400 mm (16 in.) of the extreme left or right projection, whichever is protruding.

FIGURE 16. Oversize equipment or equipment that blocks warning lamps on the towing vehicle must be lit as shown. See text for details.

    Tip:

Use your flashing amber warning lamps and tail lamp(s) for daytime travel too—you’ll be extra visible and playing it safe.

Remember: Being safe means protecting yourself as well as other motorists!

    Turn signals on implements

If either the implement or the towing vehicle are not equipped with turn signals, then turn signals on the implement are not required.

However, if both the implement and towing vehicle are equipped with turn signals, they must be in good working condition.

Many older tractors have the turn signal feature. Tying your implement lights into the seven-pin connector should activate this feature on towed implements.

The flashing amber warning lamps on farm implements are shared with the turn signal feature. When using a turn signal, the warning lamp opposite the direction of the turn should stay illuminated (not flashing) until the turn has been made and the turn signal is deactivated.
