Alberta, April 9, 1999 - Alberta Transportation and Utilities has released its own version of Manitoba's guide to the safe transport of farm equipment on highways. Make it Safe, Make it Visible was produced in conjunction with Alberta Agriculture, Food and Development and Canada West Equipment Dealers Association.
The sixteen page booklet guides producers in their efforts to operate safely on roads, but "is not a legal document for law enforcement" nor does it "supercede the Highway Traffic Act or the Motor Transport Act and their regulations". The book is essentially similar to Manitoba's BE SEEN, BE SAFE! guide.
The Alberta guide helpfully points out provincial requirements for transporting dangerous goods, promoting a technical bulletin entitled Dangerous Goods and the Agricultural Industry, available by calling 1-800-272-9600 (in Alberta) or 780-422-9600.
The publication can be requested from Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development 7000 - 113th Street, Edmonton, Alberta T6H 5T6 (ph: 780-427-2171) or from Alberta Transportation and Utilities, Vehicle Safety Section, Main Floor Twin Atria, 4999 - 98th Avenue, Edomonton, Alberta T6B 2X4 (ph: 780-427-8901).
Saskatchewan, May 10, 1999 - Saskatchewan is giving careful consideration to a lighting and marking regulation in that province, and is expected to be similar to the Manitoba Highways regulation.
The Manitoba regulation and operator's guide essentially follow manufacturing standards for lighting and marking farm equipment established by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. Interested producers can order the BE SEEN, BE SAFE guide from Manitoba Statutory Publications, Vaughan St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 1T5, Phone: (204) 945 3101, Fax: (204) 945 7172. It’s also available on the PAMI website (www.pami.ca).
